My point of view about Constantine.

My point of view about Constantine.

I attended Constantine Japan Premiere held at Tokyo International Forum. Thanks for your bringing this movie to Japan. We enjoyed the movie so much.

Fantastic original expression about the strain.

For the first time I saw the movie.and I'm so impressed with original expression,I think about nervous starin that Constantine has.I think Constantine lives on the moment because he has a lung cancer.(#But he does not quit his dangerous habit.)

Maybe my point of view is wired, but I think Mr.Lawrence creat his original expression with "Breathing".

I have thought the essence of living is breathing. Because I used to watch their heart beating, breathing, pupils, when I want to make sure to understand myself. If they understand myself, the pupils of the eyes are dilated, they breathe in deeply. If not, they hold their breath.Such a non verbal communication is in common.I think Mr.Lawrence has a big recognition about a non verbal communication.

Smoke from his cigarette was trailing out slowly. But he stops. He coughs.More he coughs,The relations between the Hell and Heaven are growing more and more strained. His cough with the situation that He will live in a year sounded tragic so much.Keanu's expression about Constantine feeling is very marbelous,I think. And He is also more attractive than in Sweet November. Constantine and Angela have a special gift,so They know ,they make sure that they love each other. For me,they would like to get out of their body to make love. It's so fantastic.I think it's so difficult to express their love without kissing or etc.But I like such acting more.Keanu,Rachel,(((You Rock!!)))

And CGI is so fantastic.A CGI spider pretending to be dead is lovely! And the hell imagination is also good.I agree that the HELL is behind us.

Pondering on Hell

I ponded on Hell after seeing the movie.3 month ago I saw a man jumped off the staition. If he had take 2 step to get out of the place in 2 seconds,he would have been alive. But he did not and he was hit by a train to die.I thought the reason why...I think Hell is the place to find no possibility.I think someone is caught under the situation ,war, disaster, etc. And another one is willing to be into the situation without their recognition.

Really it's a fantasic movie.Thanks guys!!
A fantastic movie!

my impressions of “Constantine”

First of all I’d like to thank Francis Rachel and Keanu for coming all the way to Japan. I was very lucky to go to the premiere in Tokyo 4.12 and so happy to see you all. It was an amazing night!I really hope you’ll enjoy your stay in Japan especially Keanu for this time! (We are so sorry for you to hear that you are always workingworkingworking here in Japan.)

I watched “Constantine” at the premiere for the first time and I had so much fun. Even though the movie was horrible and somewhat creepy as Keanu announced beforehand to us at the premier I felt refreshed and somewhat attached to my life when it ended.Hereinafter I’d like to tell you how I liked it.

1. One’s destined course of life and one’s choice

I think this is a common theme through my favorite Matrix trilogy and “Constantine”.

The former is more complicated inspired by various kinds of spiritual tradition and philosophy. The latter describes the theme more simple but the essence is common which tells us that our life is destined but at the same time we can make a choice by ourselves. It’s a kind of a choice that one can’t help but making whether it ends with gain or loss which is not being forced but made from the bottom of one’s heart.

When we make that kind of choice we get free of our fate. Probably God would say “Your choice is also included in your fate which is planned by me” as John Constantine dialogued at the end part of the movie. It might be true if we interpret it as meaning that “The human potentiality of making such choice is a great gift a great blessing of God.”

I think Keanu acted Constantine really well so we can realize that Constantine’s sacrifice is at the same time his own cure. He really wants to save Angela and her sister Isabel’s soul not only because he was being in love with her but also because he wants to lessen his own pain which has been given to him since he was a little boy. He wants to admit positively the gift that was given to himself and the twins telling them “Everything’s OK. It’s no problem you see them. You can live with them.”

I thought Rachel was amazing too. The powerful performance of Angela finally admitting her ability after her visit to Hell and also a very sensitive acting responding to Keanu. It was a perfect collaboration.

2 Living one’s own life :

the existence of Heaven and Hell In the story typical understanding of Heaven and Hell is emphasized critically and cynically. It seems that John Constantine has no belief and no respect for them but also he is always troubled and stuck by them. And it would be same for most people (Keanu’s acting reminds me of my own life’s troubles and it made me laugh. ). Well what does it mean?

I figure out that it means Heaven and Hell is not future assurance and penalty but a parallel reality of our life. We don’t know where our orientation for good or bad is coming from but it really exists like the half-breed. Angela says evil behaviors are the problem of people but Constantine says sometimes they come from outside. (Outside may be inside but it’s so deep that we can’t commit it in our daily life.) I think that’s the suffering of Constantine and us: we can’t control good or bad to come or not to come to us.

But at the same time as previously noted we have the potentiality of choice.

In a lot of cases we use our chances for bad at least useless or stupid. But occasionally (especially when we feel it’s a dead end) we happen to make a choice full of love and dignity like Constantine did at the end of this story. That is a beautiful mystery of life and we live for such moment surviving the rest of time full of bitterness and stupidity. In the last part Keanu shows us that aspect with expression on his face body and everything( He also did the same at the last part of “Matrix Revolution”). I’m sure his sensitive expression of joy or hope which is linked to compassion made me feel attached to my own life.

Those are my impressions of “Constantine”.Francis I admire you for creating such an interesting world and developing Keanu and Rachel’s appeal to the full. Rachel I hope you like staying in Japan and come back soon with your new movie. And Lastly for Keanu as a huge fan of you I hope you will continue to get chances to work with a lot of wonderful people and to make brilliant pieces of work. I’m really looking forward to watching your next movie and the next and the next.

All my love Tsumuji
